What can you learn from me?
Language, but not just grammar
Hungarian as an adult can only be learned by understanding and being aware of its structures.
Anyone who wants to teach you without grammar is just trying to sell you a fantasy.
However, I won’t let you be trapped in the last century with only the content of grammar exercises and translations - we will need so much more: vocabulary building, pronunciation practice, everyday language use, understanding the strategies of dialogues, developing our learning strategies, motivational talks and more.
I am committed to involving you in the use of language, and to seeing language not as an aim, but as a tool for learning about community and culture.
Culture, but not just the surface
You've probably already been introduced to the most important cultural elements: gulyás, lángos, pálinka.
But is there more behind them? If you want to understand why Hungarians act the way they do, you need to know Hungarian history, the ongoing social dynamics, our approaches to the world, our neighbours, work, sport and much more. In the different courses, you will be invited on a journey into Hungarian culture, according to your level, in order to understand more about it from the depths.
And remember: by understanding other communities and individuals, you will learn the most about yourself.
Learning methods, but not just in general terms Every language learning situation is different. Our motivations are different, as are our learning styles, the time we can devote to learning and also our goals. Together, we can find the best solution for you, so you can improve, but also find learning a language a pleasure!

It's important to talk about the seasons and how to describe your home, but what about discussing the things happening to you, to us, something that really interests you - and stuff you wish you could talk about with your partner, colleagues and friends in Hungarian? My focus is on issues that affect us all: global challenges and local problems are all covered. Environmental disasters, artificial intelligence, political activism - these affect us all. Feel free to bring your own topic and let's talk about it at your language level!
I have had students from over 50 countries. I have been involved in several international academic projects in Europe and beyond. In my biggest project I am working with representatives from almost 40 countries outside Europe. I love new cultures, and the fact that I have been to 30 countries on 4 continents shows that I also enjoy travelling. I also keep learning from my students in order to be able to deliver more precisely what Hungarian culture is in an international context.
I am also learning some languages and immersing myself in a new culture, so I understand perfectly what you are going through. I am currently living in the Netherlands with my Brazilian partner. Too many cultures and languages in one place, right? With me, you can safely talk about your language learning strategies and your individual struggles in a multilingual environment or relationship.
